Are you an artist or do you work in a collective and would you like to deepen your practice in the commons and self-organisation? Are you looking for long-term, local (Breda) collaborations in which you can explore art and ownership? And do you want to create sustainable, collaborative work?

Then join Seasonal Work: Learning in Common; the Clublokaal summer school and working period in which you will collectively explore what the commons can mean for art and vice versa.

The Commons

By the commons we mean everything that is managed collectively; from plots of land to cultural heritage and language, but also collectively managed gardens, neighbourhood organisations and digital platforms (such as Wikipedia). The commons arise when people take responsibility for what they share, outside the logic of the market or hierarchical structures.

Commoning – the creation and maintenance of the commons – offers solutions to pressing social issues such as climate change, the housing crisis, social inequality and increasing individualisation and privatisation, where the market fails to provide or causes problems.

Artists, too, are discovering alternative ways of working, producing and organising within the commons. Art can bring people together and open up a new playing field. Art also possesses a powerful imaginative force, offering the possibility to envision a different future and to create, on a small scale, the world you would like to see.
