with Zonuren, calling upon solar time, collective z o m e r e n explores what 'summering' means as context for creating an exhibition. What does 'zomeren' mean as a movement of care and gentleness, in times of geopolitical tension? The exhibition forms an invitation to visitors to make space and to slow down, as a remedy for exhaustion, time pressure, social and ecological burn-out.
With hammocks, temperature branches, rustling curtains, shadow and time assemblages, collective sit-ins, conserving apples and composing soundscapes, z o m e r e n highlights the importance of seasonality and slowing down. An exhibition as residence, a camp set up on site reflecting upon past summers and where solar time can be experienced in a changed climate.
z o m e r e n (Aliki van der Kruijs, Lenn Cox, Melanie Bomans, Niki Milioni, Rosanne van Wijk, Sanne Karssenberg) is a collective of makers and cultural workers who each engage in different ways - working with textiles, clothing, sound, visual (grammar), systems, the weather, ecotones, economies, somatics, pedagogy, and forms of collectivity - with relationality; the idea that humans, objects and ideas do not stand on their own, but always in relation to others, their environments and relationships.
Within the collective, they circle together as support sisters through the ups and downs of the cultural field and beyond. It all started with a letter from one of them in 2019; an invitation to go to summer camp together. Through the years, exploring curiously together, 'zomeren' (summering/to summer) emerged as a verb.
By landing together in one place, they create an in-between; a space where the familiar and the unknown meet. Come visit and bridge the moments when life becomes work and work becomes life; come summer together!

Admission to the exhibition and activities is free. Donations are appreciated and can be made by debit card at the bar.
The exhibition is on display on both floors of Clublokaal. Open Mondays and workshops take place on the ground floor. Unfortunately, there is not (yet) a wheelchair-accessible restroom or elevator in the building.
There is a paid parking lot directly across from the building. Clublokaal is also easily accessible on foot: it is about a 10-minute walk from Breda Station.
