Sunday 14 June | 15:00 - 21:00
To mark the conclusion of the exhibition (un(h)armed at Clublokaal, Platform BK and Clublokaal are organising a collaborative programme on the role of art and education within the state’s agenda of militarisation. There will be a panel conversation, working groups and performative contributions including the ritual destruction of the Mark Rutte effigy.
Register now for the afternoon and/or evening session and think along!
This event also serves as a continuation of the first edition of UP IN ARMS at Pakhuis de Zwijger, Amsterdam.
We will discuss the possibilities available to us as artists and cultural workers when we encounter institutional claims of neutrality and exposed complicity. For example: How can we, within our practice, relate to state militarisation and armed resistance and the differences between them?
The panel conversation and working groups will be facilitated by the directors of P BK (Hilda Moucharrafieh and Arthur Kneepkens) and members of organisations including Collective Refusal, Cultural Boycott Israel and Cultural Workers Unite.

In (un(h)armed, you will find contributions by Dewi Sofia and Balik/bayan, Alina Lupu, Breda and Tilburg for Peace, Floor Snels, Bob Entrop and Frank Hamers, Ahmad Mallah and Rebecca Lillich/Krüger, ROTS and Stop Wapenhandel.
Together with visitors, they explored strategies for dealing with a world in which the violence of war is a daily reality.
UP IN ARMS marks the final opportunity to view the exhibition (!)

15:00 - 18:00 | Zine Presentation, Panel Discussion and Working Groups
The afternoon session starts with a launch and distribution of zines illustrated by Katja Fred and riso printed by NotShit Print, which capture the highlights of the first edition of UP IN ARMS in a visual record.
We will then have a panel conversation with the invited guests, followed by parallel working sessions facilitated by Collective Refusal, Cultural Workers Unite, and Platform BK.
We'll close with a collective vegan meal by Veronique, served at 6.00 pm.

18:00 - 21:00 | Performative Contributions
The evening session begins with a communal vegan meal, served at 6.00 pm.
The afternoon conversation and results of the working groups will be summarised in a whispering round. This will be followed by a walk towards Kasteelplein, where the ritual destruction of the effigy will take place with Balik/bayan.
At Kasteelplein, there will be a contribution by Breda and Tilburg for Peace, ROT's crocheted AK47 will be collectively unraveled and we will wear the anti-militarisation T-shirts, designed and screenprinted by Alina Lupu (you might get to take one home with you, so don't miss out!).
Registration required! Sign up via this link.

Adress: Clublokaal, Kloosterlaan 138, Breda.
Admission to the event and the dinner are both free. Donations are welcome at the bar.
Registration for the sessions is mandatory. You can register for both sessions, or choose to attend just one of the two. If you wish to visit both sessions, make sure you signed up for both by clicking the different links above!
The panel discussion will be held in English. There will be opportunities for questions and discussion in Dutch.
Physical accessibility
The event will take place in the downstairs hall and the café of Clublokaal on the ground floor. There are thresholds in the building, which may make access difficult for wheelchair users. A ramp is available at the entrance. Unfortunately, there is currently no wheelchair-accessible toilet in the building.
There is a paid car park directly opposite the building. Clublokaal is a 10-minute walk from Breda Central Station.
Do you have specific questions about accessibility, or other queries regarding the lecture? Please feel free to contact us at: info@lokaal.club.
This event is co-organised by Platform BK and Clublokaal.
Clublokaal receives financial support from Gemeente Breda, Provincie Noord-Brabant, Mondriaan Fonds and Stichting KLEIO.
