About Clublokaal

A new artist initiative emerged at Kloosterlaan 138. Building on the legacy of Lokaal 01 and Club Solo, we are forging a new path; one that embraces collectivity, sustainability, and ecology. Kloosterlaan 138 is a place where artistic and social dialogues meet.

Throughout the fall and winter of 2024, Club Solo ran a pilot program called OPEN DOEN, a transition from the ‘old’ Club Solo to the new initiative at Kloosterlaan 138. This program fostered an environment where visitors were encouraged to stop by, collaborate and participate.

The artist is no longer an isolated genius. They are a part of a social ecosystem, entangled with the world, its communities and environments. They are situated in the ecological, political and social context of today’s world. This context asks for a suited approach, which we believe is a collaborative one. 

OPEN DOEN was the beginning of a new chapter. We transformed what was once called the main hall to a cozy living room, facilitated anyone who wanted to exhibit their work for a day, made a font together, talked about and ate a bunch of seaweed and peas, crushed peas between our fingers. We spread out the peas on tablecloth and spread ourselves across the floor, entangling our bodies with no-longer strangers.

In 2025, we will continue opening our space to artists, local initiatives and (unexpected) currents, fostering long-term collaborations that connect artists with grassroots initiatives to learn from one another. Welcoming them alongside our own creative practice and vision. We strive to be a space where art, discussion and action come together, shifting from the solitary to the collaborative. From solo to collective. 

We welcome you to be part of this journey—whether as a participant, a collaborator, or a curious visitor.

OPEN DOEN consisted of seven main activities: OPEN PACT (code of conduct), OPEN MONDAY (open assembly), OPEN HOUSE (take over by artists), OPEN DOOR (take over by everyone interested), OPEN WOND (reflection sessions), OPEN BOOK (publication) and OPEN BLIK (symposium).
